running of the ...bulls?

The itty bitties are not so itty bitty any more. Sully is huge, at over 3 and a half lbs. Reuben is a little thin, and Natalie is tiny compared to them, but still all have made weight for spay/neuter. I am going to go ahead and get them going on a last round of Panacur. Can't hurt. Maybe Reuben will gain a little more weight.

They do love to get out of the kitty room and run up and down the hall. They all 3 seem to really like hanging out in the tub. I am impressed that they can get in so easily. Of course, if they are watching the resident kitties here, they probably learned it from them.

quiet on the home front

Sometimes I think our own cats think they don't get enough attention, and have to do something to get it. Like keeping you from washing your hands. Or keeping you from showering in the morning...

I hate to say anything about the itty bitties...scared to jinx myself. Everyone seems to be fine for the time being. I found something strange in the litter box yesterday though. A NORMAL STOOL! Yes, hard to believe, but I saw a normal stool. Then, I saw Sully produce another one. They other two still have loose stool, but they are gaining weight, and all seem full of energy. I will be happy to get them all adopted. (Just in time for another batch I suspect) I will take a couple of days to get the room cleaned up again, and spray it down with trifectant, just in case. We won't be going on vacation until the last few days of September, so we will be able to take some more before then. Hopefully, they will all be, and stay healthy!

lazy days

Things are quiet here. Sullivan's eye cleared up with one treatment. Natalie is gaining weight, Reuben has settled down nicely.

Natalie is really turning into a love bug. She rubs up on anything close by when you talk to her. She is much smaller than the boys, but twice as active. She has more energy than something that small should have! Both boys are big enough to go back to the shelter, but Natalie is about 5 oz too small. They can't be put on view until they are spayed/neutered, and they can't have the surgery until they are 2lbs, 8 oz. So, I am thinking next week Natalie may be ready. Hopefully I can get the stools firmed up by then, and they can all go back to be adopted. They are all very sweet, and cute, so they should find homes fast.

More fun

My friend Michele came over Friday with her 14 month old son, Brennan. He was overwhelmed with all the animals, but his favorite was Buck. He liked Bentley and he got to hold Reuben, but he really wanted to pick up and hold Buck. (Buck weighs about 15lbs, so that wasn't gonna happen). He had fun at the house of animals though.
I was hoping for a non exciting, low level next couple of weeks with the 3 itty bitties, but I guess not. Sullivan has a goobery eye, and all 3 still have pretty loose stools. I treated the eye, and hope it will be better soon with out 10 days of antibiotics, just the eye ointment. I will get more kaopectate in them than I have been dosing. Although they are hitting the box, they still step in it and leave little poop footprints all over the kitty room, which is always fun. They all seem to be as crazy as any normal kittens are at this age. I am not happy that Natalie isn't gaining as fast as I want her to, but she is so high energy, maybe she is burning it off. I hope so.

Resident kitties

These two little characters are Ripley, and Bishop. They live here full time, and they sure don't look like this anymore. I don't think I remember Ripley ever being that small, cute and sweet! Bishop is still sweet. Ripley has her moments!
Bishop was Molly's (the Dane) buddy. Bishop is still fearless, even though he never hisses or swats at anyone. He will just walk by any animal like he owns the world.

Ripley came to me by someone that said, " I know you do fostering...I found this cat..."
Well, the rest is history. We got Bishop from the shelter a few weeks later to keep Ripley company. It worked out great. We got Buck the next year, and Bentley after that. Those two are a whole other chapter!

Bishop got some weird ailment a year or so ago. The vet couldn't figure it out. We tried all sorts of things to "fix" him. He was limping, and one front leg actually started to become deformed. We were about to spend a small fortune with a bunch of tests...and my friend Shara who is a chiropractor gave him an adjustment. Within 2 days, he was back to normal! I know, it's crazy, but it worked! 1 adjustment. We think maybe Buck hurt him when they were playing or something. (Buck is much bigger than Bishop.) But now he is fine.

Elephants Blog

Someone told me today my blog was depressing. Perhaps it is. Tonight it got a little more depressing. Robyn took a nose dive. She really went south fast, and I knew it was time. We took her to the shelter and they put her to sleep there. I know we did all we could for her. She mustered up one last purr for Bentley as we were leaving. She really loved that dog.

The 3 we still have here seem to be fine. I spent about an hour with them, playing with their favorite toy, the cat charmer. First though, I let them out to run up and down the hall. They love to run from the bedroom to the bathroom, as fast as they can. When one surprises the other, there is a straight up leap, and both head back in different directions. Sully is really good at "catching air." These photos are a little blurry...the camera focused on the dresser unfortunately, but you get the idea. They love to be out of the kitty room.

Some good signs, some not so good.

Good sign? No vomit this morning. Not so good sign? Didn't eat much this morning. Good sign? No bloody stool. Not so good sign? 3 drips of liquid poop. Good sign? Said stool was more brown than red. You get the picture. Robyn is holding her own, but she is lonesome for her foster siblings. I am keeping her separate from them, so she doesn't pass on to them what she has. She misses them. When she hears them mewing , she looks for them. I let Bentley fill in for them. She adores him. Rubs all over him. When I am here, I try to keep her close to me, but she really wants to be with her animal family more.

I wonder if I am doing the right thing. I keep hoping I will know the time when I should make that decision no one wants to make. Right now I think we are doing the right thing. Robyn is a fighter, and she loves attention. I will be giving it to her as long as possible.
